Talking about retention during the recruitment process may seem premature or unnecessary, but it can help your prospective candidate see how great it is to work at your organization.

However, you can’t promote your retention if you haven’t already placed a focus on it. There are several ways to prioritize employee retention at your organization, especially during the pandemic. You can create an employee referral program and employee assistance program, build trust, communicate, help decrease burnout and positively manage your employees.

When employees are happy to work at your organization, you will see:

  1. Decreased turnover

It might seem obvious that if you focus on retention, there will be less turnover, and it’s because it’s true. If your hires and staff are happy with your organization and what they are doing, they will be more likely to stay.

With lower turnover, you will save money on the cost of advertising and interviewing for positions and will be able to spend less time trying to fill constant openings.

By feeling appreciated and recognized for their contributions to achieving a larger mission, employees are more likely to look forward to coming to work, be more focused while working and perform at a higher level,

Value and appreciation build trust and loyalty, which creates high morale and better work culture. A positive work environment keeps employees fulfilled long term and is also a selling point when recruiting new candidates. Many positions will offer similar pay and benefits, but a prospect will be able to tell when an organization is the right fit based on the culture - and that could be the difference between making a hire or continuing a candidate search.
